Book Title: Ice breaker
Author: Hannah Grace
Literary Term: Setting
Pages Covered (since last entry): Chapter 1 to 10, I'm reading online so I can’t see the pages.

1. Introduction to the Book

  • Briefly introduce the book you’re discussing. Mention the title, author, and a general overview of the plot or premise. I’m reading the book Ice breaker written by Hannah Grace. The book's protagonist is Anastasia and the antagonist is Nate. Anastasia has a backstory about pushing away boys when they come too close. But so far I've read she starts to get interested in Nate but she doesn’t show it. Nate plays hockey and Anastasia is doing figure skating. So they know who each other is.

2. Summary of Recent Reading

  • Give a brief summary of the events, developments, or important moments in the book since your last talk or journal entry. It has actually happened a lot in the beginning. But the important thing is that Anastasia has met Nate, they aren’t anything serious yet but they have got physically close to each other. They have gotten into some fights and discussions but I actually think they both like each other a lot. Another important thing is that the rink has been sabotaged and both the hockey and figure skating team is pissed. So during the time the rink gets fixed they need to share and that means they will get to know each other better.

3. Analysis of Authorial Choices

  • Identify one or two key choices the author made in the section you’ve read. Discuss what the author did, why it’s significant, and how it affects the story or characters. One key choice the author makes is that Anastasia's best friend and Nate’s best friend start liking each other. That forces Anastasia and Nate to see each other a lot. I think the author chooses to write like this to continue the story between Nate and Stassi (Anastasia).

4. Incorporating Literary Terms

  • Apply a specific literary term to what you’ve read, as prompted (e.g., symbolism, irony, foreshadowing). The literary term is setting. An example is the ice rink. It’s very important for both Nate and Anastasia.

5. Personal Reflection

  • Share your thoughts on the reading so far. What are your impressions of the characters, plot, or themes? Is there anything that resonates with you personally or that you find interesting? So far I really enjoy reading the book. It’s a practical example of what I like. I like the characters and the plots that have happened so far. I like that it has ice hockey in it because that's something I find interesting.

6. Conclusion

Wrap up your Reading Log with a closing thought or reflection. You might briefly mention what you’re looking forward to in the next section of the book, or summarize your overall feelings about what you’ve read so far. I look forward to seeing if Nate and Stassi get more serious. The first 10 chapters have all been good and I think it’s an easy book to understand.

Literary Term: Character Arc
Pages Covered (since last entry): I’ve finished the book

1. Introduction to the Book

  • Briefly introduce the book you’re discussing. Mention the title, author, and a general overview of the plot or premise. I have read a book called Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. The book is about love and how difficult it can be. The main characters are Anastasia and Nathan. In an odd way they caught each other's eye and fell in love.

2. Summary of Recent Reading

  • Give a brief summary of the events, developments, or important moments in the book since your last talk or journal entry. It has happened a lot since last time. I have now finished reading. Long story short, Anastaisa gets to practice figure skating with Nathan because Aaron is hurt. They start to really like each other and Anastaisa moves in with Nathan and his friends. Aaron and Anastaisa are fighting and Nathan is her savior. They fall in love and spend every day together.

3. Analysis of Authorial Choices

  • Identify one or two key choices the author made in the section you’ve read. Discuss what the author did, why it’s significant, and how it affects the story or characters. The kiss at the end of the book that Aaron gives Anastasia in front of the whole public at the figure skating competition is something that made me wake up. Nathan was there watching it causing him to hate Aaron even more and they got into a fight. That action made Anastasia quit duo figure skating and she is instead starting her solo career.

4. Incorporating Literary Terms

  • Apply a specific literary term to what you’ve read, as prompted (e.g., symbolism, irony, foreshadowing). My literary term is Character Arc and Anastasia is a good example of that. She develops during the book and becomes her own best. She realizes that Aaron isn’t good for her and she takes distance from him. That was the best decision she could have made. Anastasia starts to get to know her own body and what she wants to do and not what Aaron wants her to do. She is starting to be that happy and loving person that she can be and that made it easier for her to let Nathan near her. He got a chance that she didn't regret she gave him.

5. Personal Reflection

  • Share your thoughts on the reading so far. What are your impressions of the characters, plot, or themes? Is there anything that resonates with you personally or that you find interesting? I’ve finished the book and it was so good that I could read it again. Some books are tough to get into in the beginning but this book was good all the way through. I really enjoyed reading it and the plots were very interesting. It was some drama but not too much and the love parts were the best. When they were sitting down and just talking about life with each other was a part I really liked.

6. Conclusion

Wrap up your Reading Log with a closing thought or reflection. You might briefly mention what you’re looking forward to in the next section of the book, or summarize your overall feelings about what you’ve read so far. Like I said, I'm done reading and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend the book to teenagers and especially if you like romantic books.
